Cyber-Crime Unit cautions ‘MoMo’ users to be vigilant of fraudsters
The cyber-crime unit of the Ghana Police Service is warning mobile money subscribers to be wary of fraudsters as electronic payment channels gradually become the new normal.
Detective Daniel Ofori urged mobile phone users to be vigilant and report suspicious conversations to their network operators and the police for further action.
“When you think the conversation doesn’t correspond to what you have, you can cut the line, the person cannot force you, so we have to be vigilant,” he advised.
He said the police is collaborating with the telecommunication service providers as well as the National Communication Authority to have a common platform where such issues will be reported and resolved.
“We are still engaging with the telcos and NCA, for us to have one platform, because when it comes to the digital space, within some seconds the person can succeed. So we are collaborating to have one platform that when issues come, the telcos will know that this is an urgent case that we have to work on so within the shortest possible time, we can also cure it,” he said.
On his part at the external launch of the anniversary the senior manager of MTN MoMo Northern Ghana, Nii Adotey Mingle mentioned that MTN quick loan defaulters who have refused to register their sims will be fished out at the end of the registration exercise.
“We expect that at the end of the day, every Ghanaian will be registered and therefore we will have the database to find them…. You will definitely register, and once you register we will find you,” he stated
He however revealed that, MTN Mobile Money will soon introduce a new service dubbed, the ‘catch them young’ series.
The Senior Manager explained that the new initiative is to introduce senior high school students to MTN mobile money services and further enroll them unto the network.
